There are many things one can say about Doze Green: he was born and raised in New York City, he is an original member of the infamous Rock Steady Crew, he is a pioneer of Hip Hop Culture, he is a Graff Legend- the King of Character’s and creator of the original “Mugsy”. He is a Fusionist- a Symbolist-a figurative painter-an “Artist’s Artist”. His work defies definition.

Over the years, Doze Green’s paintings have moved from the streets and into galleries. But, in the same spirit of graffiti they tell the stories of the oppressed which continue to be largely untold. His art career began on the walls and eventually the trains of NYC in 1974. By the mid 1980’s he was exhibiting his work in art spaces such as the OK Harris Gallery, Tony Shafrazi Gallery and the Fun Gallery. He continues to exhibit his work in America, Europe and Japan. Currently, Doze is working with artist Karl Knapp to open a school in Marseille, France where like-minded artists will be invited to participate in a residency program.

David Ellis was born in Raleigh, North Carolina and now resides in Brooklyn, New York. He is a founder of the “Barnstormers” barn painting project. David says of his work, “I look at painting like visual MC-ing. I draw, paint, make and film new combinations of old things; I love juicy spirited lines. I usually find my direction while in the act of working, not before. I conjure much of my ‘content’ by turning up the music and just flowing. I collect a vast quantity of reference material and consult it like an oracle. My biggest influence is my crew, Barnstormers. We make things because we love to look at them afterwards and reflect. Art is not something you can possess, it’s a force that possesses you, like light and love.”
